Finding Comfort in Our Spaces

This week has been a tough one. Alongside a challenging sleep regression, our family has officially joined the ranks of parents with sick little ones now that school is back in session. Welcome to autumn! While we curled up with our little girl in our favorite cozy spots, I found myself reflecting on where I feel most comfortable in my home.

For me, it’s definitely my bedroom. Before our daughter was born, I spent months restoring the original colonial details of our bedroom and building in a custom wall-to-wall headboard that feels so luxurious and inviting. I knew I might not be doing much sleeping for a while, but I held onto the hope that I would eventually return to that sanctuary. Now that our little girl is 2.5, I cherish that space even more! I love sneaking upstairs for a quick fifteen-minute escape from the chaos of toy explosions (who can relate?). And it’s calming environment has absolutely helped me unplug at night. (New bedside storage helps me consolidate my book collection and fuels my book club reading!)

Where you feel most relaxed speaks volumes about your state of mind and your surroundings.

Where do you find comfort in your home? Conversely, where are you least comfortable?

I recently had a client say that she was ready to move to a whole new apartment because she was convinced it would be easier and less overwhelming to start fresh somewhere new than try to make her (gorgeous) existing home work better for her. It made me sad, yet I completely understood her feelings. Sometimes, we become too close to our own spaces and lose sight of their potential—forgetting what initially drew us to them.

Take a step back this week. Think about the things and places that bring you joy and comfort. There’s nothing like cozy season to inspire us to create a special haven to return to, and I want that for you!
