Crafting Calm

The Power of Meaningful Practices for Comfort and Joy

I have a confession to make: I almost didn’t write a journal entry this week. Between the seemingly never-ending cycle of sickness in my house—sick child, sick husband, sick me—and the usual daily stressors, all I really wanted was to kick back on the couch with some wonton soup and watch something familiar on TV.

But what was I really seeking? (Hint: it wasn’t actually Chinese food). It was comfort. I craved something familiar to bring structure to my chaotic days—a sense of routine. That’s where my journal comes in.

The truth is, I love writing in my journal. It feels good to reflect on the week past or plan for the week ahead, igniting a spark of excitement and hope for what’s to come. Writing in my journal is a meaningful weekly ritual that keeps me engaged and grounded.

Another meaningful ritual—one that has become a daily practice for me—is dedicating time to creativity, even if it’s just for ten minutes. Recently, I finally found enough energy to stay awake after the little one went to sleep, and I can’t express how uplifting that felt. Even just ten or fifteen minutes of creativity added such a sparkle to my day.

I’m excited to share that my latest explorations lie at the crossroads of textile design, painting, and sewing. I can’t wait to reveal more—especially as I prepare for the holiday season, which brings a magical crackle in the air that I really hope to capture in my work.

Stay tuned for my upcoming collection of hand-painted, small-batch bandanas—perfect for holiday gifting! Until then, I hope you can find comfort and joy in your own daily (or weekly, or monthly) rituals. These practices may seem small, but they can truly make a difference.

What are some of your meaningful practices? Let me know—I’d love to hear from you!
