My 2025 Word of the Year: Unapologetic
Do You Have a New Year’s Ritual?
As the new year rolls in, do you have a ritual to mark the transition? A vision board, a family meeting, or maybe a list of resolutions?
I used to be all about the resolutions, but over time, I found the pressure to constantly "improve" exhausting. That’s when I discovered the concept of a Word of the Year—a single word to guide your intentions for the year, rather than a lengthy list of goals.
Why a Word?
I’m not sure where I first heard about it, but I recall a conversation between Oprah and Melinda French Gates where they discussed that concept. The idea has really stayed with me. Focusing on one word instead of endless resolutions feels more sustainable and grounded. It’s a North Star; a place and principal I can return to whenever things feel overwhelming or unclear.
For 2025, my word is “Unapologetic.” It feels aligned with where I’m headed—personally and professionally. I want to embrace my creativity with confidence, step into my life more whole-heartedly, and let go of self-doubt. It’s about being bold and authentic in all areas of my life, without apologizing for who I am or what I stand for.
(As a habitual people-pleaser, I know this will be the good kind of challenging for me—it’s time to work this muscle!)
What’s Your Word of the Year?
Now, I’d love to hear from you! If you could choose one word to guide your year, what would it be? Share it with me—I’m always inspired by your courage as you step boldly into the new year.
Here’s to an unapologetic 2025!
