When Inspiration is the Urgent Work

I had the privilege of visiting The Invisible Collection’s effortlessly chic Upper East Side townhouse location yesterday… but I almost didn’t make it!

(If you're not familiar with them, The Invisible Collection has an incredibly inspiring collection of furniture, lighting, art, and accessories from a variety of talented artists and artisans. I’ve always admired their bespoke capabilities—something that really aligns with the way we at TBH approach design. We aim to create spaces that are uniquely yours.)

I was planning the trip to check out The Invisible Collection’s exhibition featuring Jacques Doucet. I’d had my eye on a few pieces for upcoming projects, but honestly, I wasn’t going there for anything time-sensitive.

After a hectic start to the morning, however, I was running late, missed my train, and almost canceled my visit altogether. “There’s more urgent work,” I kept telling myself.

“Quiet, little voice!” I said. “I need this.” And I really did.

After yet another round of illness in my family last week (this cold and flu season has been tough, hasn’t it?), I’ve been feeling more exhausted and depleted than I’d like to admit. It was clear that what I needed more than anything wasn’t just to keep pushing through work—it was to fill my creative cup. Work smarter, not harder, right?

Let me tell you, I’m so glad I went.

At The Invisible Collection, not only did I gather inspiration for a few projects, but I also felt that electric jolt of creativity that only comes from seeing, feeling, and being immersed in beautiful art and design. (Some things just can’t be replicated over a screen!)

The team there was so warm and welcoming. I even met a fellow Pratt Architecture alum, and we spent some time chatting about architecture, interiors, and our unique journeys with art and design. It was a conversation that left me feeling recharged in a way I hadn’t realized I needed. Community—it’s everything.

So, here’s my challenge to you: Is there something you’ve been brushing aside as “frivolous” that keeps getting pushed to the bottom of your priority list? Consider this your sign to put yourself and your desires at the fore–dare I say, unapologetically? Take the time to fill your cup this week. Even if you don’t see immediate results, trust me—you’ll thank yourself for it later.

Be inspired, my friend!
